These dogs are strong and large enough that they can restrain or take down a criminal if required, and are intelligent enough to be taught a number of skills which can ease the police work. This breed of dogs has a long history of working as police dogs and goes back to early 20th century when they were used as police dogs in Germany. Now, the boxer breed is becoming popular all over the world as police dogs.

The boxers are a good and common alternate to German shepherd dogs for this purpose of using as police dogs, and are trained to chase and hold criminals in order to help the police in arresting criminals or suspects. The dogs are also helpful in maintaining order or diffuse a tense situation, as the risk of having a dog released on them can make numerous suspects or culprits have second considerations about resisting arrest. Moreover, the colors of these dogs play a vital role in helping police as many dogs with dark brown shaded, brindle, or striped coats are not easy to see at nighttime and thus keep an element of surprise when arresting a criminal. Due to this quality, the demand for white boxers has significantly decreased. This is also because white boxers can easily be spotted in dark so their importance as police dogs is seriously degraded.

 

Due to the significant role that the boxer dogs and other breed police dogs play in arresting suspects and maintaining the peace, numerous authorities all over the world take special measures to ensure that the dogs they use remain safe. Numerous police precincts have started using specially made body armor for their boxers and other police dogs to keep them from being shot or else assaulted, and try keeping their dogs mixed with general public by having them live in the houses of their managers. In numerous places the punishment for harming or assaulting a police dog is similar to harming or assaulting a uniformed police officer, thanks to laws that were sanctioned to discourage violence against the dogs that the police use.

 

In conclusion, working boxer breed is very good for police work. They are also famous for their ability to work as seeing-eye dogs for blind people and they even worked as couriers during World Wars. Boxers are among the most complex breeds of dogs of nowadays, mixing aggressiveness with friendliness and loyalty.
